Our Childcare Montessori Philosophy

At Montessori Kids Universe (MKU) our philosophy is a beautiful combination of authentic Montessori methods, Reggio Emilia Methods and developed together with DaVinci Kids. Let’s look more at each of these.

Montessori Method

The Montessori Method is an educational philosophy developed over a hundred years ago by an Italian physician; Dr. Maria Montessori. Through research with children, Dr. Montessori discovered a unique methodology observing how children learn. The Montessori Method fosters individuality, enabling each child to follow their own interests in a carefully prepared environment. Students develop a self-driven pace through independent learning. The child is then guided to higher level skills as individual mastery occurs.

Social Graces and Courtesies are a core component in a Montessori Kids Universe school. We believe in modeling respect and courtesy. As we model respect, our students develop respect for themselves, their classmates, teachers, classroom and community.

Reggio

The Reggio Emilia method was founded by a teacher, and educational psychologist Loris Malaguzzi shortly after WWII in Reggio Emilia, Italy. One of the main aspects of the philosophy is the role of self expression. The philosophy believes in the concept of “One Hundred Languages” in that there are “hundreds” of ways for children to express themselves.

Those ways of expressions are described as expressive, communicative, symbolic, cognitive, ethical, metaphorical, logical, imaginative and relational. In following the philosophy materials are presented; and the artist known as the atelier, offers a variety of different expressionist tools that allows the child free reign to express themselves. Initially children explore, experiment and play with the materials but they are subconsciously developing skills and will eventually be able to use those skills to assist in concept development. There is no right or wrong. Each child is allowed to express their individuality thus nurturing creativity and deeper understanding of a topic.

DaVinci Kids

DaVinci Kids, our proprietary enrichment curriculum was developed with the objective to foster creative thinking skills; integrated through the arts and sciences. Our enrichment curriculum provides many provocations and opportunities for the child to participate, igniting curiosity and developing creative thinking skills. Our unique curriculum focuses on creativity through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (S.T.E.A.M.). A carefully planned series of successes builds upon the child’s inner confidence, assuring them they can learn independently and creatively. These activities contribute to your child’s healthy emotional development as they continue to build self-confidence.

The combination of the Montessori and Reggio inspired philosophies, integrated with our unique DaVinci Kids curriculum, reinforces and strengthens the child as a competent, creative and curious person. Our curriculum offers an abundance of creative outlets, stimulating projects and social interactions.
